Actor, director, and producer Lee Jung-jae has shared his excitement for the upcoming release of the Netflix series "Squid Game 2," expected later this year.
On the 27th, Lee Jung-jae attended a special session at the 2024 International Broadcast, Audio & Video Market (BCWW) held at COEX in Gangnam, Seoul. During the session, titled "Lee Jung-jae: The Endless Challenge," he discussed his journey into directing and producing, his experiences with the global success of Korean content, and his future plans and goals.
Lee Jung-jae, who recently became the lead in Disney+’s original series "The Acolyte" as part of the "Star Wars" franchise, is set to return to Netflix in December with the highly anticipated second season of "Squid Game," the series that earned him an Emmy Award.
"Squid Game 2," which was kept under tight wraps throughout production, recently announced a release date of December 26th. Filming has already been completed, and director Hwang Dong-hyuk and the production team are currently focused on post-production.
When asked about his upcoming plans, Lee Jung-jae commented, "With the release date set for the end of December, the post-production process is underway. The actors are also preparing for the promotional phase by practicing anticipated questions and discussing their characters and the series. It looks like we'll be diving into full-scale promotion for 'Squid Game 2' in the second half of the year."
As a producer, Lee Jung-jae also mentioned that he is working on various projects across different genres, though he humorously noted that the release dates for these projects are still uncertain. "I'm approaching each project with dedication, working hard on them one at a time," he added with a smile.
The BCWW, now in its 24th year, is Asia's largest international broadcast and media content market, operating under the slogan "Opening the Future of the Global Stage." This year, 277 companies from 13 countries are participating. Notably, France is participating for the first time with a national pavilion representing Western Europe. Speakers include Lee Jung-jae, Kwon Ha-seul, director of the two-time Dubai International AI Film Festival-winning studio Freewilloision, representatives from Bonfactory and officials from CJ ENM and Rakuten Viki.
BCWW will take place from August 27th to 29th at COEX Exhibition Hall C and the conference rooms in Gangnam, Seoul.
