At the 77th Locarno International Film Festival on Aug 17, the Korean actor Kim Min Hee took home the Best Performance Award for ‘By the Stream’, a film directed by Hong Sang Soo. The film had its world premiere at the festival, and will go on to be screened at the New York Film Festival.
Upon receiving the award, Kim Min Hee expresses her gratitude, “I had a great time during the brief filming period. I had a lot of fun acting with fellow actors Kwon Hae Hyo and Jo Yoon Hee, and I’d like to thank them and share this award with them. I’d also like to thank the audience for their warm words of support.” She also conveys her respect towards Director Hong Sang Soo’s craft, stating, “Director Hong Sang Soo, thank you for creating such a beautiful film. I really love your films. Thank you for collaborating with me.”
'By the Stream' follows the story of a young female college lecturer who asks her uncle, a blacklisted actor and director, to direct a play at her university. The film stars Kim Min Hee, Kwon Hae Hyo, and Jo Yoon Hee, all of whom have appeared in several of Hong Sang Soo's previous works.
Scheduled to be released in South Korea later this year, 'By the Stream' will hit North American theaters next year.
