Hong Seok Chun has urged the public to take special precautions regarding the global spread of Mpox (formerly known as monkeypox).
On August 24 KST, the popular television personality shared a news article on his social media about concerns over the rise in Mpox cases, stating, "Everyone, please be really careful. It spreads quickly. Africa, Europe, Southeast Asia, the U.S.—it’s spreading fast."
He particularly warned, "Be careful, and make sure to practice safe sex. I keep saying this over and over—there's a reason. Be extremely cautious when traveling abroad. With the holidays ending, the number of cases in Korea will likely increase soon."
He added, "My followers, especially my younger ones, remember this: it's just the beginning. Prevention is key. No drugs, yes to condoms. I guess I need to take the lead here."
Meanwhile, Mpox was originally an endemic disease in Africa, but since May 2022, it has spread worldwide, with cases mainly reported in Europe and North America.
