In the latest development concerning accusations that NewJeans' track "Bubble Gum" plagiarized Shakatak's 1981 hit "Easier Said Than Done," the British band announced on their official social media account that they have enlisted the services of a musicologist to analyze the two tracks.
Just a day before, an exclusive media report revealed that representatives of the English jazz-funk band Shakatak have accused ADOR of copyright infringement in NewJeans' song "Bubble Gum." However, ADOR's Min Hee Jin had denied the accusations and demanded that they "submit a credible analysis report."
So on July 19, Shakatak explained through social media, "To all our fans and friends in Korea thank you for all your comments about the usage of “Easier Said Than Done” in several recent songs. Our publishing company Wise Music Group is on the case and has employed a musicologist to take this further. We will keep you posted."
Korean netizens commented:
"Shouldn't they have analyzed the song first before making plagiarism claims? lol."
"The songs were too similar so I thought they said they used it as a sampling."
"This is getting funnier."
"When criticizing other groups for plagiarism, did they wait for a court ruling first? No, they didn't."
"Nothing less expected of HYBE people."
"Plagiarism Jeans, tsk tsk. Ultimate hypocrisy."
"This is so funny. ADOR Min Hee Jin."
