NCT's Renjun has personally apologized for revealing an ordinary civilian's phone number.
As previously reported, SM Entertainment issued a formal apology after Renjun exposed the number to fans through the Bubble messaging app platform, claiming the number was owned by a sasaeng calling him. Since then, he's received backlash for leaking the phone number, and the owner of the number, Ms. C, has stated she simply called the wrong number and did not intend to call Renjun at all.
The alleged victim Ms. C has also come forward to criticize SM Entertainment for apologizing through a statement instead of apologizing to her directly. Renjun's manager then contacted Ms. C to apologize on Renjun's behalf, and the manager reportedly stated he would "try to prevent the number from being leaked as much as possible." However, the managed then allegedly asked Ms. C, "Isn't it possible you're his sasaeng?"
Ms. C then stated she had gone to police to report the incident, stating, "It's my fault that I made a wrong call, but is it right to leak the number of an unverified general citizen in such a public place? Two or 3 hours later, the investigator called me and told me the SM legal team would apologize, but the apology has not yet come. I had to change my phone number and get verbally abused by strangers just because I made a wrong call. I demand a proper explanation from SM."
Renjun has now written a personal apology on his Instagram account. The post states as follows:
"I apologize to those who were affected by my reckless actions yesterday. I always wanted to bring positive energy through music and performances, but my judgment was clouded in a moment, and I made the wrong choice. I sincerely apologize to those who were hurt or suffered because of me. Please stop contacting the affected person due to my reckless behavior. I deeply regret my actions and will be more careful not to act impulsively in the future. Once again, I apologize to everyone who was hurt by me."
The number has since been deleted from the Bubble platform.
In related news, Renjun previously expressed he was suffering from stress due to persistent sasaeng stalkers. He also took a hiatus from promotions because of anxiety earlier this year.
If SM actually did something about the sasaeng problem then this wouldn’t have happened. But sasaeng are the ones that do the most mass buying so they’re definitely not going to risk upsetting them and lose money. This cycle will probably continue until stalkers are actually dealt with
