LOONA's Heejin, Kim Lip, Jinsol, and Choerry have won their exclusive contract lawsuit against Blockberry Creative.
On June 21, the 11th Civil Division of the Seoul Northern District Court ruled in favor of Heejin, Kim Lip, Jinsol, and Choerry in their civil lawsuit against Blockberry Creative. The lawsuit was filed in March of 2023, initially progressing without Blockberry's response. The label then responded belatedly and court hearings commenced in December of 2023.
The four previously achieved a temporary injunction that suspended the effects of their exclusive contract, relieving them of restrictions on their entertainment activities. Alongside the lawsuit, they established a new base at the agency Modu House and debuted as the group Artemis, which was reformed as a 5-member group with the addition of Haesol.
LOONA debuted in 2018 as a 12-member group, but last year, member Chuu faced disputes with Blockberry over financial settlement issues, which caused a ripple effect. Other members also pursued legal action for suspension of their exclusive contracts, leading to the practical disbandment of the group in the process. Chuu won her first and second trials against Blockberry Creative to dissolve her exclusive contract, but the label appealed the verdict. They're now awaiting a final decision from the Supreme Court.
Stay tuned for updates.
