Plagiarism has always been a hot potato in the music industry. Months ago, dancer Kelly Sweeney took to her social media to address an issue where her entire choreography has been used by HYBE without permission or credits.
The group embroiled in this plagiarism issue is none other than ILLIT, HYBE’s rookie girl group. It was only recently that HYBE has included the deserved credits in ILLIT’s video, prompting Kelly to edit her post to include that she has acknowledged the correction.
Due to how HYBE’s management team for ILLIT has handled matters, ILLIT’s name has been tainted by multiple plagiarism controversies. Despite achieving popularity and success in the charts, the young and hopeful girls who have debuted to realize their dreams have also become victims of much criticism. While you cannot separate the members from the group, it is worthy to note that most, if not all, artistic aspects of a Korean idol group are typically under complete control of their company and respective management teams.
Kelly also notes that hate should not be directed to the girls, and emphasizes how this is a situation that “happens way too often in the entertainment industry and needs to stop.”
this is kinda old but this also isn’t the first time Hybe has been found stealing choreos… do they not have a creative director and a choreographer? Why steal other peoples hard work when you’re a billion dollar company. I hope they gave her money too instead of just including her name
