Recently, the BBC documentary “Burning Sun: Exposing the Secret K-pop Chat Groups” was released, shedding light on the journalists who investigated the Burning Sun scandal and the crimes that took place, including sexual assault and illegal filming and video distribution.
Now, another victim of the Burning Sun Scandal has come forward to discuss her experience. Ling Cheng (鄭金鈴) is a social media influencer from Hong Kong.
She recently made a post describing her experience:
“The BBC revealed the inside story of the ‘Burning Sun incident’ through a documentary. I kept thinking about my experience, and it sent a chill down my spine the whole time I was watching it. In 2018, an acquaintance’s ex-boyfriend was singer Seungri’s Hong Kong business partner, so I visited Burning Sun. Seungri was the DJ that night, and the club was crowded with people.” She went on to describe how many people inside the club were taking drugs at the time, and when she asked why police didn’t investigate the club, she was told, “The police turn a blind eye to clubs like this.”
Ling Cheng stated that after drinking only two glasses of champagne, she started to get drunk unusually quickly and ended up losing consciousness for some time. "I remember wondering if there were drugs in that drink." After that, her wallet ended up being stolen. Fortunately, her friends helped her leave the club immediately and report the incident to the police.
Ling Cheng concluded her post:
"Fortunately, in the end, I only lost my belongings... I hope my personal experience can help caution others. Many of my friends from Hong Kong come to Korea and ask me what nightclubs I would recommend. But honestly, Gangnam nightclubs are still very dangerous.
I definitely don't recommend going to a club if you're with a few girls."
Ling Cheng also included pictures from that night to prove her story:
"Burning Sun: Exposing the Secret K-pop Chat Groups" was recently released on the BBC World Service YouTube channel, reviving the controversial “Burning Sun Gate” scandal of 2019.
