On April 26, NCT member Doyoung issued a sincere apology to fans for his comments about AI voice covers.

The idol began with a Bubble message reading, "I have something to say, but the topic is a little heavy so I'm going to use formal speech! I hope to put this in a way so that my feelings can be delivered as sincerely as possible."

He then wrote,

"I am writing because while it may be a rather heavy topic, I just felt that if I did not address it, it would not sit well with me or with Czennies who love me.
While chatting with Czennies on Melon, I was moved after hearing 'Beginning' sung by Sunwoo Junga sunbaenim, and I mentioned AI voice covers by saying, 'It would be great to hear my favorite singers whose voices I really love singing my songs.' I think that I did not think it through deeply, and so I made a mistake. Even though I am a musician who prepared this album earnestly, I thought lightly of content such as AI voice covers, which may have great impacts on the value of singers and their voices.
There are no excuses, it was a mistake on my part.
I sincerely apologize to all of the sunbae artists whom I mentioned as singers whose voices I love, and to all of the fans of those artists.
I also want to say sorry to Czennies for my actions which I am not proud of, and also for creating such a situation.
I will do better to become someone who thinks deeply about music and who acts earnestly."

Doyoung calmly explained that he spoke lightly after being moved by an AI cover of one of his songs, reprising the voice of Sunwoo Junga. Many netizens expressed their understanding after reading Doyoung's apology, commenting, "It's good to see someone admit their mistakes and apologize for them", "Everyone makes mistakes or says things they don't mean. His apology came across as very sincere", "It's a really clean apology, no emotional outbursts, just a sincerely apology", and more.

The problem is the genie is out of the bottle now, and there's no point trying to put it back. I don't know where we go from here, there are some very very good AI covers around, but there must be some way of compensating the artist whose voice has been copied, and a way of getting permission for use - a bit like images.

    .

The rights to images have been sorted for a long time now, rights to a voice presumably could be sorted out in a similar fashion - and that could benefit the original artist too, as they don't actually have to do anything to get royalty fees.
