In a recent interview in Seoul, actor Kwak Dong Yeon recently sat down to discuss his role in the tvN weekend drama 'Queen of Tears'. The drama revolves around the tumultuous journey of love between Hong Hae In (Kim Ji Won), a third-generation conglomerate heiress, and Baek Hyun Woo (Kim Soo Hyun), the scion of a supermarket empire.
In the series, Kwak Dong Yeon portrays the character of Hong Soo Cheol, the younger brother of Hong Hae In. Despite initially having a lackadaisical attitude, Soo Cheol gradually matures into a devoted husband and stepfather to his wife Cheon Da Hye (Lee Joo Bin) and her son.
Expressing gratitude as the drama concludes, Kwak Dong Yeon remarked, "It was the longest project I've worked on. It was my first experience with such a lengthy production." He credited the supportive staff and senior actors for creating a positive working environment and leaving him with cherished memories.
Delving into his character's complexities, Kwak Dong Yeon shared, "Soo Cheol has various layers to his personality. While he may appear childish at times, his sincerity towards his family shines through." He revealed that he consciously crafted Soo Cheol's appearance to match his character's traits, opting for a more conventional style.
In preparation for his role, Kwak Dong Yeon drew inspiration from iconic businessmen like Steve Jobs to imbue Soo Cheol with a professional demeanor. Additionally, he meticulously managed his weight fluctuations, shedding pounds to convey his character's emotional journey convincingly.
As 'Queen of Tears' concluded with its 16th episode on April 28 KST, Kwak Dong Yeon's portrayal of Soo Cheol, infused with comedic elements, contributed to the drama's overall success.
