Dispatch uncovers the origins of the contractual dispute involving Meenoi, Company P, and AOMG

AKP STAFF

On March 7, Dispatch released another article shedding light on how the conflict between Meenoi, AOMG, and Company P initially began. You can read a summary of the previous Dispatch article and more background information here.

According to Dispatch, Meenoi claimed that the ad's content was too much compared to the amount she was getting. She explained, "Compared to the advertising contract in 2022, I felt that there was a lot more content, so I requested a contract revision, but it was not adjusted..."

Based on Meenoi's claims, Dispatch dug further into the issue and was able to obtain information on the advertisements Meenoi did in 2022. In 2022, Meenoi filmed 8 advertisement content for company A and company B. Dispatch also obtained information on the content she filmed for company A and company B. They also obtained information on the content she was to film for company P (Paparecipe).

The advertisement with company A was a one-time deal at 140 million KRW (~105,733 USD) for six months. Meenoi filmed two videos, 1 photoshoot for printing, 1 Radio commercial, 1 participation in a promotional event, and production for 1 song.

The advertisement with company B was 390 million KRW (~294,544 USD) for six months. The difference between company A's and company B's advertisements is that company B was a global contract. Usually, a global advertisement contract is twice as expensive. The content Meenoi recorded for company B included 1 video recording, 1 photoshoot for printing, 1 social media posting, and participating in events.

For the advertisement deal with Paparecipe, Meenoi's commitment included filming one video, conducting one photo shoot for print, and making one Instagram post, for a fee of 200 million KRW (~151,008 USD). Despite the relatively lower content requirement with Paparecipe—three contents, compared to six for Company A and four for Company B—Meenoi expressed concerns over the workload being too demanding.

According to the conversation between Meenoi and the AOMG Representative that was revealed by Dispatch a day before, Meenoi can be seen inquiring about the cost of the advertisement with Paparecipe. She asks, "Hey, oppa. While going through the settlement statement, I had a question. Back then (for the company P ad), I remember we agreed on 250 million KRW." However, the AOMG Representative confirmed that it was for 200 million KRW and said, "I think I mentioned 200 million KRW."

This means AOMG was clear from the beginning. The original cost for a six-month advertisement would be 200 million KRW, and Meenoi also agreed.

So Dispatch delved further into what Meenoi really wanted to adjust for her advertisement with company P (Papareceipe).

According to Dispatch, Meenoi ultimately wanted to be paid 400 million KRW (~302,058 USD) for a 6-month advertisement and 200 million KRW for a 3-month advertisement.

Every artist has the right to raise objections about their payment and guarantees. However, Dispatch pointed out that Meenoi could have raised these issues earlier on and not just a day prior to the advertisement filming.

AOMG sent the December settlement statement to Meenoi on January 9, and Meenoi raised objections about the advertisement fee with company P on January 27, which was a Saturday. This means that Meenoi had 18 days to raise objections about the cost. However, she only notified AOMG that she had objections about the advertisement filming a day before the filming.

Lastly, Dispatch also pointed out that although Meenoi wasn't aware of the period when the contract was finalized, she was still actively talking with the advertiser (Company P) countless times. Company P claimed that they had already sent Meenoi products from their offline pop-up shop last month.

In a conversation with Company P, Meenoi thanked the company for the products they sent to her and Company P expressed their excitement in working with her.

Additionally, Dispatch pointed out that Meenoi had already filmed a total of 40 advertisements under AOMG but only raised issues with the electronic signature on her 41st advertisement deal. So, Dispatch raised the question of whether Meenoi really had issues with the electronic stamp signature or whether she was dissatisfied with the guarantee payment.

Korean netizens commented, "If you look at the timeline, she's the worst. The company gave her the settlement statement on January 9 but then she raised an issue about the advertisement fee on the 27, which was like a day before the shooting. How can she ask for double the payment just a day before the filming? She also asked them to cut the ad content in half if they won't pay her 400 million... if this isn't abusing power, what is?" "Meenoi ultimately wanted to be paid 400 million KRW (~302,058 USD) for the 6-month advertisement and 200 million KRW for the 3-month advertisement. She wanted 400 million KRW...wow," "These celebs even though they're not well known are making good money," "Give me more money or cut the months in half is what I said. If you did that I was thinking about taking care of this without any issues (Meenoi)," "I think it's more ridiculous that she said she won't pay for the contract breach penalty," "I don't even know who she is. How is she asking for 400 million?" "She's being like the FIFTY FIFTY girls, lol," and "I never heard of Meenoi before, I only know AOMG."

Honestly, I don’t even know who she is until this whole mess.

Well, it’s not looking good for her.

In 11 years AOMG has never had an issue with any artist and they have had a lot of artists, majority of them who have renewed their contracts and have expressed how thankful they are with the company and the CEOs (in particular JP back when he was still the CEO). So to me it looks like Meenoi having some level of success with her youtube show went up to her head, because as a singer she is not known at all. In fact, I doubt she would have all these ads if it wasn't for the fact that AOMG are VERY good at getting all kinds of promotional opportunities for their artists even when none of them are topping the charts.
