A new discussion has grabbed the attention of K-pop fans in a popular online community.
On January 26, one netizen brought to attention another online community post from 2018, asking how popular the Girls' Generation was in their prime.
The post asked, "How popular was Girls' Generation? I heard their popularity was crazy when they were promoting with 'Gee' and 'Genie' right? Are they comparable to TWICE today?"
At the time, Korean netizens explained, "In the idol market of our country, male idols have always dominated. However, during the time of Girls' Generation's 'Gee' and 'Genie,' they outshone all male idols, establishing themselves as the leading female idol group. Back then, no group could surpass Girls' Generation. While TWICE and Red Velvet are currently top-tier female idols, they still can't outbeat EXO and BTS. Girls' Generation easily outperformed all male idols during their prime," "(Their popularity) was many times more than TWICE's. Naver server exploded because their teasers were released," and "The era when people don't know Girls' Generation has come...they were amazing, they probably did all sorts of advertisements."'
The netizen who brought this topic to light again explained, "This post was made 6 years ago so I think more people are unaware of Girls' Generation's popularity now. They were really awesome."
