Starship Entertainment recently announced that IVE's Wonyoung has won a civil lawsuit filed against former YouTuber Sojang.
The agency disclosed that, since November 2022, they have actively pursued a comprehensive legal strategy involving both civil and criminal lawsuits, including international legal actions, against Ms. Park (Sojang). Park operated the channel Sojang and persistently harassed the agency's artists.
Meanwhile, in the civil lawsuit initiated by Starship Entertainment, the opposing party has yet to respond. Notably, in Wonyoung's case, a favorable judgment was delivered in her favor, explicitly stating that it was grounded on false allegations.
In the past, numerous entertainment labels sought to initiate legal actions against the operator of Sojang. But their efforts were thwarted by YouTube's privacy measures, preventing them from obtaining personal information about the individual behind Sojang.
In 2021, Big Hit Music, representing BTS, initiated a defamation lawsuit, and in 2022, KQ Entertainment, the agency for ATEEZ, followed suit with a similar legal action. Nevertheless, the lack of adequate identification information from YouTube posed a significant hurdle in advancing the lawsuits.
Nevertheless, Starship Entertainment successfully acquired vital information during the recent case involving Wonyoung from IVE. This was because Wonyoung was a minor at the time when malicious videos were published by Sojang.
With Sojang's identity being revealed through the lawsuit filed by Starship Entertainment, other entertainment agencies are said to resume their lawsuits against Sojang.
In response, Korean netizens commented, "Let's celebrate," "I wish all the other similar YouTube channels get sued too," "Serves her right," "I wish everyone who was sponsoring her would get sued too," "This is the best news this year," "Justice is served," "Good," and "Hurray~."
She deserves it. Karma's a bitch.
