A woman in her 20s who extorted millions of KRW from the late Lee Sun Gyun through blackmail was caught by the police after she attempted to flee.
On December 27, legal sources revealed that the Metropolitan Investigation Unit of the Incheon Police Agency had issued an arrest warrant for a 28-year-old woman, identified only as 'A,' on charges of extortion and blackmail.
The day before, 'A,' who had already been the subject of a pre-arrest warrant, unexpectedly did not attend her scheduled court appearance at the Incheon District Court, providing no explanation for her absence.
In response, police began a search to ascertain her whereabouts. They executed the arrest warrant, which was issued along with the earlier pre-arrest warrant request. On the same day, they managed to locate and forcibly detain her.
'A' is now detained at the Nonyeon Police Station in Incheon, awaiting her substantive warrant examination scheduled for December 28 at 2:30 PM, under the supervision of Judge Lee Kyu Hoon, the chief judge of warrants at the Incheon District Court.
The charges against 'A' involve the extortion of 50 million KRW (~38,624 USD) by blackmailing actor Lee Sun Gyun. This case came to light earlier in October when Lee reported that 'A' and another individual, 'B,' a 29-year-old female manager of an entertainment establishment, extorted him, leading to his payment of 300 million KRW (~231,745 USD) to 'B' and 50 million KRW to 'A.' The police continue to investigate the full extent of the allegations.
Previously, Lee Sun Gyun was the subject of a police investigation regarding suspicions related to marijuana and psychotropic substances. Despite undergoing three rounds of police interrogations, he steadfastly denied the charges. The results of preliminary urine tests, a second in-depth analysis of hair, and the additional collection of body hair all yielded negative results.
However, on December 27, a tragic turn of events occurred when Lee Sun Gyun was found unconscious in a park in Jongno-gu, Seoul. Regrettably, it was later confirmed that he had passed away. The funeral is currently taking place quietly, with the presence of family and colleagues.
So he had to leave this world for the police officers to wake up and do their job ? That’s very saddening…
