Kim Nam Gil appeared on the December 5 (KST) episode of 'Suchwita (Time to Drink with SUGA)' and sat down for a candid talk about his career, life, and more.
SUGA welcomed Kim Nam Gil and shared, "You're actually friends with Jin, which people already know. But this two-shot (of us) might seem unexpected." Instead of bringing alcohol, Kim Nam Gil brought sparkling water as they began talking.
Kim Nam Gil shared that he asked Jin for advice before appearing on 'Suchwita.' He explained, "Since you had come to my premiere and invited me to the show, I wanted to buy another gift that you might like. So, I called Jin. I asked Jin, 'What does SUGA like?' and he said, 'He likes basketball,' and I was like, 'I already know that too.' I'm asking because I want to buy a gift for him.' and he said, 'Hmmm...Honestly, I don't know what he likes either,'" and let out a laugh.
During the conversation, Kim Nam Gil also talked about his career and how he began acting. He shared, "I achieved my childhood dream and turned it into a career. Whether it's good or bad, or however things go, I'm still working as an actor. And I'm glad that I got into this career."
Kim Nam Gil revealed that his journey into acting was sparked by inspiration when he witnessed a compelling theater performance during high school. Motivated by this experience, he eagerly joined the theater and embarked on his acting endeavors. During this period, a senior colleague suggested that he pursue acting professionally, leading Kim Nam Gil to audition for MBC's open recruitment.
Unfortunately, right after making the audition, Kim Nam Gil shared he got into a huge accident, which prevented him from kick-starting his career. He shared, "After being hired, there was a six-week training where you learn about the attitude you need to have (on TV). After the training, I was driving home after giving a ride to some colleagues. That's when I got into a car accident."
The actor revealed he was hospitalized for six months after the accident and was in a wheelchair for a while. He then half-jokingly remarked, "That's why ever since then, memorizing lines has been hard for me. I think it's an after-effect. Usually, people say the after-effects of the accident lasts for three to four months. But mine has been ongoing for 30 years."
SUGA responded, "I was also in a car accident...I was 20 and had surgery too... That's why it's hard for me to memorize lyrics," making everyone laugh.
It's sad that when an idol says they were in a car accident any other idol in the room responds with, 'I was too'.
