Hwa Sa took the stage at the 2023 SBS Drama Awards to commemorate the late actor Lee Sun Gyun.

The 2023 SBS Drama Awards took place at the SBS Prism Tower in Sangam-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul, on December 29. Shin Dong Yeop and actress Kim Yoo Jung were the MCs for the event.

It was disclosed that Hwa Sa altered her elaborate planned performance at the last minute in response to the sudden passing of actor Lee Sun Gyun. Shin Dong Yeop explained, "Hwa Sa prepared a dazzling stage, but due to the recent heartbreaking events, she had changed the performance."

Wearing black attire, Hwa Sa chose to sing her song "LMM" instead of the originally prepared "Chili" and "I Love My Body." Hwa Sa's "LMM" is about the struggle with being stuck and longing for change. It conveys frustration and a desire to break free from monotonous circumstances while hinting at hope and resilience, suggesting that beauty and growth are possible even in adversity. With a poignant vocal tone fitting the song, Hwa Sa added depth to the lyrics, "Even if we try harder to go further, we just wander in place. As the sun sets as if the world is ending, we feel like we'll be abandoned in the long darkness."

The actors who were watching from the audience all watched with solemnity, some with their eyes welling up with tears.

Most of the actors who attended the awards ceremony on this day wore black to mourn the late Lee Sun Gyun, who passed away on December 27. Additionally, the actors from Lee Sun Gyun's last drama 'Payback' did not attend the ceremony.
