On November 10 KST, the production staff of tvN's variety program 'Unexpected Business 3' issued a statement of apology for alleged "sanitation issues".
Previously, on the reality program, the cast members including Jo In Sung, Cha Tae Hyun, Yoon Kyung Ho, Lim Joo Hwan, and Han Hyo Joo were seen preparing kimbap for customers at their pop-up market/cafe without sanitation caps and sanitation masks. Furthermore, some the cast members were seen taste-testing kimbap with their gloved hands, before going on to prepare more rolls with the same gloves on.
The footage became an issue among some viewers, who felt that the cast failed to uphold proper sanitation practices while serving real customers.
In response, the production staff of 'Unexpected Business 3' stated,
"Hello, this is the production staff of 'Unexpected Business 3'.
After the most recent broadcast of 'Unexpected Business 3', we received many opinions from our viewers.
While operating a cafe serving food and kimbap, 'Unexpected Business 3' should have taken proper measures to maintain proper sanitation practices; however, there were some scenes in which the cast members were seen without masks and other proper equipment required for sanitation maintenance, and this caused concerns for the viewers. Admitting to this mistake, we would like to offer our sincere apologies. Furthermore, we would like to emphasize that these issues arose entirely due to the inattentiveness of the production staff.
For this season of 'Unexpected Business 3', the production staff took efforts to strictly follow the unfamiliar sanitation and food safety procedures practiced in the United States, the filming location of this season. It may be that we were paying so much attention to the fine details, that we failed to catch the most basic fundamentals. We also feel apologetic for failing to properly portray the efforts of the cast members, who also did their best to follow the sanitation and food safety procedures to the best of their understanding.
As it stands, all filming for this production has been completed, and the program is currently in the process of editing and broadcasting. As a result, we regret to inform you that issues of improper sanitation raised by the viewers cannot be fully addressed; nonetheless, we will take measures in the editing process to take these issues into account as much as possible.
Once again, we sincerely apologize for our mistakes, and we promise to exercise strong caution during the production stage in the future."
the amount of time given for the kimbap to be sold is actually too short, but i guess the issue is cross contamination and not that the kimbaps were sold bad.
