Anton, from the group RIIZE, showcased his cello performance at the '2023 MAMA AWARDS' held at Tokyo Dome in Japan on November 28, broadcast live on Mnet. This year's 'WONDER STAGE' aimed to transcend regional, linguistic, genre, and generational barriers.
Yoshiki, the iconic leader of the Japanese band X Japan — a veteran of 18 performances at the Tokyo Dome and 30 million records sold globally — took the spotlight. He joined forces with K-pop artists, including TXT's Taehyun and Hueningkai, to deliver a fresh rendition of X Japan's hit 'Endless Rain.'
As Yoshiki graced the piano, TXT's Taehyun and Hueningkai contributed vocals. Anton, the son of famed singer and producer Yoon Sang, displayed his cello prowess alongside Yoshiki's piano.
Han Yoojin from ZEROBASEONE also graced the stage, performing a mesmerizing contemporary dance.
Park Chan-wook, head of CJ ENM's business division, shared insights on the stage's conception, stating, "With X Japan being a pivotal figure in Japanese music, we aimed to show that music unifies. We believed they were the perfect artists to relay this message."
He continued, "Given the location at Tokyo Dome, we anticipated a significant Japanese fan presence. Yoshiki, who fosters Korea-Japan cultural exchanges, seemed the ideal artist to embody the 'Music Makes One' theme, especially with the beloved 'Endless Love' connecting him to Korean audiences."
Yoshiki was also celebrated with the Favorite International Artist award at the ceremony.
The 'MAMA AWARDS,' a premiere global music awards show hosted by CJ ENM for 24 years, is renowned for its grandeur, innovative concepts, and landmark performances. The 2023 awards spanned two days, November 28 and 29, at the Tokyo Dome.
