YG Entertainment's upcoming girl group Baby Monster will debut as a 6-member group without Ahyeon.
On November 15, YG Entertainment announced, "Baby Monster will release their debut song and music video on November 27 with six members - Ruka, Pharita, Asa, Haram, Rora, and Chiquita." According to YG's latest statement, Ahyeon has decided to take a break due to health reasons.
YG Entertainment expressed regrets as they were unable to introduce Ahyeon to the lineup for Baby Monster's debut. The label stated, "We regret for being unable to introduce Ahyun as a member of Baby Monster. However, this decision was made with the best interest in the artist's health. We will spare no support for Ahyeon to fully recover and return in good health."
This statement from the label has triggered another online discussion among Korean internet users, as many are questioning the future of YG Entertainment without Ahyeon joining Baby Monster's debut.
One netizen who started the discussion on the popular online community, Nate Pann, shared, "Right now BLACKPINK's contract renewal is unclear, and honestly the male idols are not doing well, compared to YG's earlier era of first-tier idols. In such situation, Baby Monster? They're not just another new girl group. From YG's perspective, they will decide the company's fate. This single opportunity will decide the fate of the company, whether they will go under or not. But what if the most crucial member is missing from Baby Monster? It could mean they could seriously fail."
Other netizens joined the conversation and commented, "This is not just about Ahyeon having that much influence. It's about YG looking incompetent in managing a new group to the point where they lost a key Korean member in the group they were launching. YG already missed the change with BLACKPINK, and now they're in a situation where they have to stake their survival on Baby Monster. And yet it's a group with mostly non-Korean members? They will never make it to the top tier," "To be honest, seriously, other than Ahyeon, the rest are not that great. Pharita is okay but what about the others? Chiquita? Rora? There are posts that say they're highly anticipated but honestly, there's nothing much to say because they're not that impressive," "To be honest, they will never make it without Ahyeon," "This might be more impactful than BLACKPINK without Jennie," "YG knows that they need to include her" and "This situation is like BLACKPINK without Jennie and IVE without Wonyoung."
What do you think about this?
If only YG hadn’t got rid of the one group that actually wanted to stay together and managed them properly…
