Do celebrity YouTubers earn hundreds of millions of won per movie or drama promotion?
Celebrity YouTubers in Korea are reportedly raking in hundreds of millions of won for allowing actors or actresses appear as guests to promote their works on their channels. This trend, as reported by 'OSEN', indicates that YouTubers with massive viewership can receive deals ranging from 10 million to 100 million won for featuring actors on their channels.
A confidential source associated with the entertainment industry revealed that for an actor or actress to appear on a channel boasting more than 3 million subscribers, an average payment of about 100 million won is expected. This revelation underscored the contrast with traditional methods where television programs paid actors to come on their platforms for promotional purposes, reflecting the continually rising influence of YouTube channels.
One of the appeals of YouTube promotions that sets them apart from broadcasting channels also appears to be lenient regulations concerning the use of language and thematic content, which typically creates more buzz.
However, the source was quick to point out, "Not all YouTubers receive 100 million won, as there's always room for negotiation." The source further disclosed that often, if the actor happens to be a close personal friend of the YouTuber, promotional content may be presented without any fees.
Interestingly, the promotional fee also depends on whether the actor or actress’s appearance in the video directly references their TV show or film work. Professionals from the movie and drama industry are reportedly paying somewhere between 30 to 40 million won for promoting their productions on YouTube channels.
