In the latest episode of 'I Live Alone,' Kian84 embarked on a 42.195 km (26 mile) marathon to test his endurance and resilience.
In the episode of the MBC entertainment program that aired on October 27, Kian84 took on the challenge to finish a full marathon where he had to finish the 42.195 km course within 5 hours. Kian84 confessed, "I didn't have a set time to tie me down. I just thought I should finish the race even if I have to crawl to the finish line."
Kian84 prepared two months for the marathon and didn't face any challenges at first. However, 1 hour and 18 minutes into the marathon, he began to slow. He shared, "I started to feel it starting at the 21.5 km (13 mile) point. I felt something had gone wrong at this point." Kian84 felt a sudden, unexpected pain that began when he drank water.
He explained, "I thought I should drink a lot of water since I'm sweating so much. I drank so much water that my stomach began hurting. When my stomach pain would become alleviated, I would drink more water. But it would hurt again."
Kian84 added, "Even when practicing, I would collapse at the 20 km mark. The vision in front of me began swimming, and I started seeing things. It was at the halfway mark, so I think a half course is best for me."
Eventually, Kian84 collapsed right before reaching the half-way check point.
But Kian84 didn't give up. After resting for a bit and receiving aid from the marathon pacemakers, he was able to return to the course. He pushed himself through the pain and managed to finish the race.
Kian84 confessed that he would have given up the marathon if it hadn't been for the pacemakers running with him throughout the marathon.
He collapsed once more at the 30 km mark and explained, "My ankles began hurting, and I think I was completely depleted of energy," but got up once more to begin running. As he ran, he caught up to two runners who were connected by a string.
Kian84 explained, "The grandpa running, he's actually blind. The blind grandpa is running while holding onto the string attached to his helper. When I saw that, I felt teary-eyed. (After seeing him) I thought I should continue to run."
He elaborated, "I saw that and really felt a bit emotional. I'm always quick to give up. So, without them, I probably would have called a taxi. I probably would have given up and taken the taxi home. But when I saw the blind elderly man, it gave me the courage to run."
Ultimately, Kian84 finished the full marathon with a time of 4 hours, 47 minutes, and 8 seconds. He later shared, "My goal was just to make it to the finish line, but now I want to set a new personal record. I think I can finish within 4 hours next year. I plan to do the run with actor Lee Jang Woo."
Sounds like he hit "the wall", very common around the length of time he was running for by the time this happened.
