Former Big Bang member T.O.P's trip to space, joining billionaire Yusaku Maezawa, is postponed until further notice.
Back in 2022, it was reported that former Big Bang member T.O.P would be joining billionaire Yusaku Maezawa on a trip to space. Reports stated that T.O.P would be one of 8 selected influential individuals from all around the world who contribute to the human race. These 8 participants, T.O.P included, would reportedly join the 'Dear Moon' project, a mission led by Maezawa in partnership with Elon Musk's SpaceX. However, it seems like this trip will have to be postponed until further notice.
On October 1 KST, one exclusive media outlet reported on the postponement of the 'Dear Moon' project. Kim Sung Soo, a professor of space exploration at Kyunghee University, appeared on a news channel and talked more about the SpaceX mission. He stated, "The 'Dear Moon' project is the first civilian project that aims to fly them to the moon. The spacecraft Starship, developed by SpaceX, is expected to fly around the moon for about six days and the original plan was to proceed with this project this year." He then added, "We already completed a contract with a Japanese shopping mall businessman to have a rocket called Starship circle the moon once. According to the original plan, we should already be there by now. However, because SpaceX's development of Starship became delayed, [the mission] will likely not be possible to [proceed] this year, and will be possible in a few more years."
I remember the same thing happened to Lance Bass from *NSYNC, where he was asked to be part of a NASA program and go into space. He did all the training, all the classes and everything he needed to be prepared for the mission and at the last moment they canceled it. Lance later said the reason for its sudden cancellation was that his life insurance company wouldn’t support it. I wonder if this is also part of the reason his trip was canceled along with SpaceX not being ready. Whatever the reason, I’m sure this is a huge bummer for him. I certainly would be bummed if I was told I was going to space and then didn’t get to do it.
