An employee at Aewol Restaurant, Apgu-jeong, has been fired for opening mocking NCT member Chenle and former 'Transit Love 2' cast member Kim Taei on SNS, shortly after the two paid a visit to the restaurant on September 1 KST.
Upon noticing that Chenle and Kim Taei, the restaurant employee took photos of the two customers without permission, then uploaded them on SNS with the following comments:
"NCT Chenle is here. Real time."
"First, to sum up what I saw, Taei is huge. *Why I think this person is Taei = Hell of a chain smoker. Smoked like hell."
"'Transit Love 2' Taei *I suspect it's him."
"NCT Chenle *Chinky (jjangkkae)."
[Note: "jjangkkae" is the Korean equivalent term for the racial slur "chinky", which has historically been used in many countries such as Japan, the United Kingdom, the U.S, etc.]
Fans quickly noticed this employee's rude SNS posts and spread the word, angrily asking, "I get that Chenle went to the restaurant, but is that really appropriate for you to openly mock another person over their nationality like this?"
Some time afterward, Aewol Restaurant, Apgu-jeong issued an apology for the incident, confirming that the employee in question has been fired. The restaurant wrote,
"This is Aewol Restaurant, Apgu-jeong.
We deliver our sincerest apologies to Chenle, Taei, and to the fans.
An employee's mistake is our responsibility.
This employee's actions were unforgivable, and we responded by firing the employee immediately.
We also apologized to Chenle and asked for his understanding.
We sincerely apologize."
How hard is it to treat celebrities like humans who deserve space and privacy? Apparently harder than winning the lottery.
