AKP STAFF

tripleS' next subunit EVOLution under Modhaus — composed of YooYeon, NaKyoung, ChaeYeon, SooMin, Kotone, YeonJi, Mayu, and JiWoo — is set to debut on October 11. Ahead of their album release, four members of the unit graced the stage at the '2023 Philippine Blockchain Week,' marking their very first live performance in any Southeast Asian country.

Decked in chic brown outfits, the girls performed their captivating songs including "Generation," "Rolex" "Girls' Capitalism," "Rising," and the song to conclude the show, "Colorful."

Before they took the stage, four members, YooYeon, NakYoung, SooMin, and YeonJi, sat down with allkpop for an exclusive chat. Check out our full interview with tripleS' fourth subunit, EVOLution, below!

Shout-out from EVOLution:

allkpop: Tell us more about tripleS EVOLution. What's your main concept, and what do you think is the unique thing about this sub-unit? For those who may be curious, how would you introduce EVOLution to people?

tripleS: To describe the concept of EVOLution in one word... The word that first comes to our mind is "Diamond." Diamonds don't easily break and we want to think of the diamonds as ourselves.

allkpop: How are you preparing for this debut? What are the things running through your mind as your debut gets closer day by day?

YeonJi: For me, it's my first time debuting, unlike my fellow members. As our debut comes closer, I'm very nervous, but at the same time, I'm also super excited. I can’t wait to be on the stage meeting the fans and performing for them.

allkpop: How has your experience been as part of tripleS so far?

SooMin: I'm very thankful and happy to be able to provide happiness and excitement to somebody else through my performance. It makes me feel alive. Looking at the fans’ reactions and enthusiasm makes me so happy.

allkpop: This is your first time performing in any Southeast Asian country. How did you prepare for this stage performance? What activities do you do to kind of relax or control your mind before taking the stage?

NaKyoung: Honestly speaking, we had to multitask preparing for this stage along with the preparations for the album release. It was a lot of work, but it was so fun at the same time. We worked hard to prepare for this stage in the Philippines every time the four of us got the chance to do so. As for my pre-show relaxation, I close my eyes and meditate right before going on to the stage.

allkpop: For YooYeon, you participated in the survival show ‘My Teenage Girl’ where you gained praise for your talents. What do you think is the biggest thing you’ve learned from it that you’re able to apply as you prepare your debut in tripleS?

YooYeon: The biggest thing I've learned from participating in the program was that hard work always pays off. That lesson has helped me work really hard on the preparations for tripleS activities.

allkpop: For SooMin, what do you believe has been the most noticeable change or development you see in yourself?

SooMin: I think my major improvement while preparing for this album is being able to act more and dive deeper into the character of what I want to be on the stage.

allkpop: For NaKyoung, what message or advice has your older sister BIBI given to you that you have kept until now? When did you realize that you really wanted to pursue this career of being an idol?

NaKyoung: One thing that my sister, BIBI, has taught me is to always have a thankful mind for all the staff and people who are working behind the scenes. That's the thing my sister told me, and I try to keep that promise and follow that lesson. I've always wanted to become an idol. It was during my high school days that I had this determined mind of wanting to become an idol.

allkpop: For YeonJi, I was wondering if there’s anything, maybe a piece of advice, the older members have given to you? And how do you work toward improving yourself?

YeonJi: In general, my unnies have taught me about responsibilities. Our responsibilities as part of tripleS are one of the most important factors in working together. They have taught me a lot about how important responsibilities are.

allkpop: What activities do you usually do to kind of unwind and relax between your jam-packed schedules?

YooYeon: In between our schedules, we would like to take naps. For me, in general, I always think about the future, the next schedule, and how I will be able to do it.

allkpop: Are there any artists you’d like to work with in the future, be they for a music release or just a special stage collaboration?

SooMin: Of course, it's IU! I always have high respect for her and it would be a dream if I were given the chance to perform with her on stage.

NaKyoung: My sister BIBI!

YooYeon: TWICE, BLACKPINK, and Red Velvet!

YeonJi: TWICE as well! Their choreography was the first one I worked on.

allkpop: Lastly, do you have any messages to everyone, allkpop readers, and your fans?

YooYeon: As tripleS, there are tons of new things and aspects that we want to show to the world, so please stay tuned and continue to show your support to tripleS!

tripleS is the best new thing to happen to Kpop in a while, their concept is fresh and original. I hope they get to do all those collabs someday!
