On August 8 KST, it was reported that a lawsuit has been filed against a ticket scalping dealer 'Mr. Park', for concert ticket fraud. M.Y.music, the company representing artists Jung Joon Il and Dear Cloud, filed a civil complaint on the first of the month. Mr. Park had previously committed fraud by falsifying reservation statements and seating charts, resulting in deposits being taken from multiple people. He was sentenced to one year and six months in prison for his actions.
M.Y.music has identified several other ticket sales scams involving artists such as IU, Youngtak, Park Hyo Shin, Younha, 10cm, Ailee, Jaurim, YB, Kang Hyung Ho, Soran, and HYNN. In response to these fraudulent activities, M.Y.Music has filed for compensation for damages caused by business interference, including harm to the audience and damage to the artists' reputation due to the sale of scalped tickets.
The law firm representing the case stated that the scalper should be held both criminally and civilly responsible for their actions. The act of scalping tickets not only causes financial losses for artists and agencies, but it also discourages consumers from attending concerts, affecting overall revenues.
Yoon Dong Hwan, CEO of M.Y.music and chairman of the Korean Music Label Industry Association, is determined to tackle illegal scalping. As part of their efforts, M.Y.Music conducted a survey on illegal scalping transactions to demonstrate the actual damage caused to artists and organizers.
