It turns out a familiar face in the new Netflix series 'Mask Girl' appeared in an Academy-winning film.

The attention of netizens has been focused on Park Geun Rok, who played the role of "Handsome Monk" in the Netflix series 'Mask Girl.'

The show narrates the tale of an ordinary office worker, Kim Mo Mi (portrayed by Go Hyun Jung, Nana, and Lee Han Byeol), who succumbs to an unforeseen incident. Kim Mi Mo, grappling with severe self-confidence issues related to her looks, conceals her face every night, transforming into an internet broadcast BJ (streamer). 

Geun Rok effectively portrays the "Handsome Monk," an enthralled viewer of Kim's nightly broadcasts attempting to reveal her hidden face.

In his striking characterization of a character pretending to be a Korean-American, Geun Rok displays dramatic changes in pronunciation, intonation, and demeanor upon their true identity reveal—leaving a lasting impression on the audience.

Alongside garnering praise for 'Mask Girl,' Geun Rok's past work has also stirred interest. Notably, he played a crucial role in the Academy Award-winning film 'Parasite,' directed by Bong Joon Ho.

Despite his brief appearance portraying 'Yoon,' the driver for Mr. Park, he showcased powerful acting that had a significant impact on the viewers. 

Bong Joon Ho, appreciating his skills during the auditions, had stated, "I met him for coffee out of curiosity because I heard he acted well. I realized he's like the Ha Jung Woo of the independent film scene."

In addition to this, Park Geun Rok has been building his filmography by taking on various roles in works such as tvN's 'Designated Survivor: 60 Days,' the movie 'Crazy Romance,' and OCN's 'Dark Hole.'

After the release of 'Mask Girl,' netizens expressed their curiosity about Park Geun Rok, saying, "Do you know who that 'Handsome Monk' with awkward Korean is?"
