Red Velvet's fandom, ReVeluv, organized a truck protest in front of the SM Entertainment building on July 17.
Starting at around 9:00 AM KST, fans parked trucks displaying protest messages aimed at the management company.
The event was shared on Twitter through the account 'DC Red Velvet's ReVeluv Gallery.' One of the released photos depicted a message that questioned SM's approach to promoting the group, stating, "What use is it to release just songs? SM sabotaged promotions relying on (group's) popularity. Proceed with various promotions" and "Only two full-albums after ten years since debut? Proceed with the third full album as planned."
Red Velvet has been active for a decade since their debut in August 2014 and has garnered a massive following worldwide with hits like "Red Flavor," "Peekaboo," "Psycho," and more. Recently, they held their 4th solo concert, 'Red Velvet 4th Concert: R to V.'
However, fans are expressing their disappointment with the limited number of full-length albums released thus far. Considering the group's long-standing presence in the industry, they believe that only having two full albums is insufficient.
The trucks displayed various demands:
1. Request to release Red Velvet’s 3rd studio album this year — In their 9th year of debut, they have only released two studio albums.
2. Request to secure sufficient stock during pre-order period — For many comebacks, Red Velvet’s albums sold out before the pre-order period ended.
3. Request for renewal of fan lightstick — Compared to many other lightsticks, Red Velvet’s fan lightstick is dim and does not show the fan color (pastel coral) well, even in the dark.
4. Request for content creation (group and individual) on accessible platforms in Korea and Internationally.
5. Request for various promotions on TV shows, YouTube (Including music-related programs such as Studio Choom, Killing Voice and SNS promotions such as TikTok).
6. Request for proper management of Official social media accounts (Eg. Twitter, Instagram, Facebook) — To be more timely, and properly use the platforms to promote and publicize their schedules and voting activities.
7. Request for recruitment of official paid fanclubs in Japan — till date, Red Velvet is the only active SM artist to not have an official Japan fanclub.
8. Request for improvement in world tour problems — to be held in various countries and cities (Asia, North/South America, Europe), bigger concert halls suitable for audience capacity, proper promotion and progress, and ticketing schedule.
Supporters of the truck demonstration argue that Red Velvet should have the autonomy to produce their own content and establish an official paid fan club in Japan. They also emphasize the need to increase album releases.
Given the strong backlash from some fans, it remains to be seen if SM Entertainment will heed their demands and initiate preparations for Red Velvet's much-anticipated 3rd full-length album.
I should move to Korea and open a protest truck business. They’re being sent by fans constantly.
