KPOP groups that have brought back the true Y2K style

TNX, CIX, TripleS, Red Velvet, iKON and New Jeans in Y2K style

The Y2K trend refers to the fashion, music, and cultural patterns that developed in the early 2000s when the technology revolution began. At a time when tuning into a radio broadcast held more sway than scrolling through music charts, when denim jeans were the pinnacle of fashion, and when the pop and hip-hop genres were locked in a fierce contest for global listening dominance, music and fashion intersected in unique ways. In the kpop world, the Y2K generation was represented by artists such as Shinhwa, BoA, TVXQ, Wonder Girls, BIGBANG, Kara, Girls' Generation, and all those we know today as the late 1st generation and 2nd generation.

Starting from the 3rd generation of KPOP the style of viewing music, MVs, and even the interaction and appreciation through fans underwent a change, but today the Y2K culture is making a return and it's not just about the fashion of bell bottoms or wearing leather jackets, it's about a whole set of details that lead different groups to be part of the Y2K generation in today's music.

NEWJEANS

With a unique style among all the girl groups, NewJeans debuted with a concept that brings back the fashion of the early 2000s when pop culture was represented by bell-bottom jeans, vintage stickers, and cassette tapes/CD's. The girls present all this as an elaborate concept since the release of their pre-debut song 'Attention' and maintained it with the release of their first mini album. Undoubtedly, the girls that started a new wave and that today are the example of a style that we begin to see recurrently in many girl groups.

TNX

The New Six starts their new path through a new concept that reminds us of kpop groups from before Y2K and in the 90s, possibly as a tribute to what was the 1st generation of K-pop idols. The group's photographic concept is what stands out the most besides the styles, bringing back the completely straight and black hair, styled with leather jackets and velvet, plus the high school student vibe that gives the group a new taste since their debut.

TripleS

This fantastic girl group has attracted attention for its number of members and its different divisions, reminiscent of the beginning of subunits in kpop when big groups like Super Junior started this trend. TripleS came with a colorful and youthful style that represents any teenager of 2009-2012 but with a modern and updated aura, one of the groups that have managed to merge the music and styling of current fashion trends and Y2K fashion.

CIX

The 5-member group dropped their artistic concept to take us by surprise with 'Save me Kill me' and their school concept through a story that leaves a strong social significance in Korean culture and the world. The development of its story and concept originated from 3 years ago but it is not until now that we have seen the continuation of a Y2K style that brings back MVs with a storyline, social message, and a controversial theme. An MV style not seen recurrently since the 2nd generation in the kpop world.

Red Velvet

Drama, light colors, and styling that will remind you of any award show between 2007-2010. Red Velvet has always taken risks with their concepts, but with 'Birthday,' they kept their particular sound and managed to combine it with Y2K. Hair tied in two tails, mini skirts, magic tricks and masks, like in a cult movie, the members seem to promise to keep this style for a while.

iKON

Unlike all the aforementioned groups, iKON went back to their beginnings with the hip-hop sound and culture of the early 2000s with their release 'Tantara,' a sound that represented them since their debut when the classic 'Rhythm ta' shocked the general public. The freshness of the group's style, laid-back charisma and American pop vibes in their latest release 'U', strolling between early 2000s hip-hop and 2010s pop are proof that they have renewed and rediscovered their origin. iKON still feels like that endearing friend of generation Z.

Of course, many other groups like BOYSNEXTDOOR and FIFTY FIFTY could be mentioned in this list. Which other kpop group would you mention?

I refuse to accept any of this as Y2K unless they upload the vids in 244p maximum quality

Except for the fact that what these groups are doing is nothing close to the groups of that era, except for TNX and even then it was more 90's than 2000's and only applied to styling not sound.

They should just name this trend something else as it isn't Y2K in fashion or sound so they should stop pretending it is
