Former Super Junior member Kangin recently gave his personal account of the situation when he decided to depart from the group.
Recently, the YouTube channel 'Others' Lives' uploaded a video titled "Ep. 4 Kangin, 7 years of hiatus/living as Kim Young Woon thereafter." In the video, Kangin went on a backpacking trip with the producers.
Kangin also talked about his DUI controversy and shared, "I was clearly in the wrong. I did something I shouldn't have done. I was 26 at the time, I was younger than I am now, but that is an age when I knew what is right and wrong."
He continued to talk about his departure from Super Junior and shared, "A few years ago, I left (Super Junior). Rather than feeling responsible, I felt that I wasn't able to make my own decisions in that situation. I just felt terrible and apologetic to the point I couldn't hold up my head."
He continued, "I wanted to be a help to the group, but there was a misunderstanding at the end. It's difficult to explain with my own mouth, but my name was mentioned in the group chat incident. At that time, I was filming a drama in Japan. Before, I went to film in Germany with one of the guys (embroiled in the controversy), and there was a separate chatroom with everyone who was on that show. There was nothing that would be problematic in that chat room, but then the articles were released as if I was part of that (group chat incident). It wasn't distorted (information), but it was a completely incorrect report. I had a hard time back then."
He continued, "I kept clarifying and it was even reported that I had nothing to do with it. But people don't remember that part. Also, people believed in unfounded rumors about things I didn't do, continually associating these falsehoods with the name 'Super Junior.' I found it unacceptable to let this continue, so, for the sake of the group's reputation, I made the decision to leave."
Kangin also expressed his heart towards the other members and shared, "I'm always feeling sorry towards my colleagues and friends. I probably will feel sorry for the rest of my life."
Does he refers to the Burning Sun scandal group chat? Whatever happened, I hope he can forgive he himself one day, make a peace with everything, and be blessed with happiness.
