Tragedy struck on May 22 when a soldier lost his life due to a gunshot wound to the head during shooting training at a military base. 

Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident to determine the circumstances surrounding the unfortunate event.

Military authorities say the incident occurred around 12:15 PM on May 22. Private A, a soldier in his 20s, sustained a critical gunshot wound to the back of his head while participating in K2 personal weapon shooting training at an army unit located in Yangju. Immediate medical attention was provided to Private A, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). However, despite all efforts, the soldier tragically succumbed to his injuries and passed away.

It has been revealed that Private A was struck by a bullet discharged from his own rifle, which had been loaded with live ammunition during the training session. In light of this incident, authorities, including the military and police, have initiated a comprehensive investigation into Private A's background, identity, and life within the military unit. A military official expressed profound condolences, stating, "We extend our deepest sympathies to the family and loved ones of the deceased."

The military is actively collaborating with law enforcement and relevant authorities to investigate the causes of this tragic accident thoroughly. The primary goal is to determine the factors that led to the unfortunate incident and implement necessary measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
