Netizens expressed their thoughts on MBC's 'Hangout With Yoo' allegedly exploiting Lee Mi Joo and Lee Yi Kyung's dating scandal for views.
On the May 27 KST broadcast of MBC's variety show 'Hangout with Yoo', it centered around the recent dating scandal between Lee Mi Joo and Lee Yi Kyung that had garnered a lot of attention. Yoo Jae Suk and the other cast members observed the relationship between the two alleged lovers, using evidence to back up their conclusions in the humor-filled episode.
Despite the trending topic of Lee Mi Joo and Lee Yi Kyung's potential relationship and excellent on-screen chemistry, netizens expressed divided opinions regarding the show using their dating scandal for their episode topic. Some thought the show was exploiting a personal matter to capture viewers' attention, while others thought it wasn't a big deal.
Netizens who didn't mind commented:
"Mi Joo succeeded."
"Just leave Mi Joo alone."
"Netizens are continuing to attack Mi Joo on variety shows too, even after Lovelyz disbanded."
"I was a fan of Mi Joo since her Lovelyz days and after their disbandment, I love how I can see her work hard on variety shows. I won't just let it go if netizens are trying to put her down."
"Who knows. At this rate, they might really end up dating!"
"Yoo Jae Suk's entertainment style is usually like this though."
Others thought it wasn't necessary to include their alleged relationship into the show itself. They wrote:
"The producers and writers need to be more selective in the celebrities they use. Variety shows these days are all so boring now."
"You dont' have to watch it [if you don't like it]. I definitely haven't been watching this since long ago."
"The level of variety shows are getting lower and lower."
"Variety shows these days can't follow up to shows from long time ago."
"I think they look good together, but do they really have to go this far [by including their dating scandal in the variety show]?"
There are comments that say variety shows are boring now but what exactly do people want? Celebrities have to be super sensitive to viewers and fans because hell have no fury like internet/sns commenters. People want to only focus on their faves & preferences so grouping different groups and people aren't as much of a thing. People keep showing a ridiculous amount of interest in entertainers' personal lives so is it surprising it would be used to attract viewers? Producers and entertainers are probably thinking "why can't/shouldn't we capitalize on this"?
What do people even like?
