Iconic K-pop boy groups that have their own management labels

AKP STAFF

K-pop has captivated the global audience with its infectious melodies, hypnotic choreography, and striking visuals. Originating in South Korea, the genre's success largely hinges on the meticulous guidance and supervision provided by talent agencies. However, some K-pop groups have taken a different approach by establishing their own labels, which allows them to forge a distinct identity in the industry.

In this article, we will delve into three prominent K-pop groups that operate under their own labels and examine the unique qualities that distinguish them from their counterparts.

SHINHWA

SHINHWA is a first-generation K-pop boy group that was established by SM Entertainment in 1998. The group comprises six talented members and boasts the title of being the longest-running K-pop boy band in history. After departing from SM Entertainment, the group was signed to Good Entertainment before eventually establishing their independent label called SHINHWA COMPANY in 2011.

HIGHLIGHT

Highlight, formerly known as BEAST, is a talented four-member boy band signed under their independent label, Around Us Entertainment. The group was formed in 2016 by the members themselves after their departure from Cube Entertainment. In 2019, the band established a new subsidiary with the aim of developing a new rookie boy group.

SUPER JUNIOR

Super Junior is a veteran K-pop boy band formed by SM Entertainment in 2005. The group is now operating under their own label management named Label SJ, which is affiliated with SM Entertainment. In the 10th year anniversary of the group, SM established Label SJ as a sub-label to oversee all aspects of Super Junior's album production and activity management. Label SJ operates independently, taking full responsibility for the group's activities and album releases.

K-pop groups under their own agencies often have more control over their creative direction, allowing them to experiment with their music and visuals and build their unique brand identities. This has led to a diverse range of K-pop groups with distinct musical styles and concepts, which has only further elevated the genre's popularity worldwide.
