A 33-year-old man with the surname Lee made headlines when he forcibly opened the emergency exit door of an Asiana flight departing from Jeju and landed at Daegu Airport at an altitude of 213m. The police have requested an arrest warrant for Lee, and the prosecution has asked for a substantial review of the warrant before making the arrest.
On May 28, a warrant review for Mr. Lee was held at the Daegu District Court in Suseong-gu, Daegu. Lee arrived at the courthouse wearing a white mask and a black hat, making it difficult to recognize him.
When reporters asked why he committed the crime, Lee replied, “I wanted to get out quickly, so I opened the door.” When asked if he had planned the crime beforehand, he only shook his head to deny that he had planned his crime.
Lee expressed remorse for the children who suffered from hyperventilation and headed to the lawyer's reception room. He shared, "I'm sorry to the children (who suffered)."
Currently, Lee is being charged with violating the Aviation Security Act, and if found guilty, he can be sentenced to up to 10 years in prison. The court is likely to punish him severely as the Aviation Act has a reputation for imposing severe penalties.
Lee's criminal act resulted in injuries for 12 people, including elementary and middle school students, being taken to the hospital with hyperventilation symptoms. Additionally, 194 passengers complained of extreme anxiety. The court will decide whether to issue an arrest warrant later this afternoon after comprehensively reviewing the criminal charges and the possibility of destroying evidence or fears of escape.
In conclusion, Lee's act was irresponsible and put the lives of his fellow passengers at risk. It is crucial for individuals to follow the rules and regulations of aviation security to prevent such incidents from happening in the future.
Good. You cannot explain this away. You just can't. Those doors won't just open with fiddling, they're made to only open when you WANT it opened.
Just please don't be dumb on planes, many people are already freaked while flying, this doesn't help.
