It has been about five days since Lee Seung Gi and Lee Da In tied the knot.
Amidst the joyful news of their wedding, there have been many rumors circulating about the two celebrities, such as a pre-marital pregnancy and the rumors about Lee Da In's mother donating the wedding gift money to her own foundation.
On April 12, Lee Seung Gi personally took to his personal Instagram account with two lengthy posts clarifying the rumors that are circulating in regard to his wife and her family.
Lee Seung Gi wrote the letter in two parts, and he explained, "When I donated the 5 billion KRW (3.8 million USD) that I received from my former agency in December last year, I received praise from the public. Many people showed me support and gave me courage. I think that period of praise lasted about 2 months. After announcing my marriage to my wife, Lee Da In, the public opinion flipped. But that doesn't matter because I didn't donate to gain public support."
He continued to write, "I always believed that the public is right. If the public is displeased, there is a reason. However, sometimes it is unjust. For example, when the public is misinformed. 'He (Lee Dan In's father) embezzled 26 billion KRW through stock manipulation, and there are 300,000 victims'? This is obvious misinformation. I don't know where the reporters and YouTubers got this information, but it is completely unfounded."
Lee Seung Gi revealed that Lee Da In's parents filed a complaint against five media outlets that reported the news (Sports Kyunghyang, Ten Asia, Xports News, Celeb Media, and Wikitree) to the Press Arbitration Commission. He revealed that the Press Arbitration Commission ordered that the media outlets release a correction report.
Lee Seung Gi also clarified the reports about receiving product sponsorship at his wedding and stated he has not received any sponsorship from any brand. The singer also called out the reporters who have not contacted him for fact-checking before releasing articles about the sponsorship rumors.
He even exposed the reporters who have connections with the executives at Hook Entertainment. Lee Seung Gi exposed all the reporters who intentionally wrote negative articles about Lee Da In's father and used that to threaten Lee Seung Gi.
He then directed another post to his fans and apologized to the fans who were hurt by all the controversy surrounding the singer. He shared, "I want to say something to the fans who cherish me. First, I am sorry. I heard that you were hurt by the flood of articles about me. That's why one fan even asked me to stop the marriage. I once again bow my head and apologize."
Lee Seung Gi continued, "Even my close acquaintances told me to 'think about my image' and told me to break up. I was frustrated. My wife didn't choose her parents. How can people tell me to break up because of her parents' issue? Even before getting married, my wife and I made a promise that we will repay while we live. We will help those in need. We will keep this promise regardless of the negative comments... Many people came to the wedding to congratulate us. I want to thank them sincerely. While thinking about a way to return our gratitude, we came to the conclusion that it would be more meaningful if we used the gift money for children in difficult circumstances. We plan to use all of the congratulatory gift money to support children in need."
He concluded the post, "I lived as a celebrity for 20 years. I've never said anything so emotionally. Of course, people will nitpick at this letter. And this letter will be another thing that will start malicious articles. But the reason I took the courage to write this...is that it was so difficult due to the negative and slandering articles that came out, starting from the dating news to the wedding, even now five days after getting married. I became discouraged looking at the malicious comments. I won't ask you to bless my marriage, but please just watch. I will live happily with Lee Da In while sharing with others. I believe that is the best that I can do."
It hurts my heart. I wish him to be happy.
& I wish all the negativity of pseudo-journalists unable to verify their sources would come back to them like a boomerang.
