tripleS have been garnering attention with their unique worldview called "Dimension." The girl group has a total of 24 members, but the girls get to debut in different sub-unit groups with the members chosen by their fans.
Of course, there are many idol groups with different sub-units, but tripleS has a unique system in which the unit group will not be able to continue their promotions if they don't meet a certain goal. In order for the unit group to continue, they need to sell 100,000 album copies or more.
The first sub-unit of tripleS was AAA (Acid Angel from Asia) which made their debut on October 23 as a four-member group. The girls garnered attention for various reasons, but their promotion ended short.
The girls were officially disbanded this month after about 1 month of promotion because they were not able to meet their album sales quota. AAA's first mini-album, 'ACCESS,' had sold only 18,500 copies leading the unit group to disband.
K-netizens criticized that the goal was unrealistic since the girls are from a small-mid-sized agency and were saddened to see the unit group disband.
Netizens commented, "The song was so good...100,000 is the same thing as saying that their unit groups will only be for 1 promotion," "The member combination was so good, why are they doing this...?" "They did really well selling over 18,000," "The agency is so weird, this is probably making the members stressed out," "What...? They're really going to operate the group like this...?" "They should add one more member to this group and debut them as BBB lol, I want to see more of Kim Yoo Yeon," "This is so ridiculous," "How will a rookie group without a core fandom sell over 100,000?" "Isn't 18,500 album copies really good for a rookie girl group?" "I really liked their song, how can they disband?" "It's going to be a lot of work to make a new name for all the unit groups they will produce," "Will there be solid fandom forming like this?" "I think they are planning to have an infinite number of unit groups," and "Are they going to name the next group BBB? lol"
Wtf is this? It's like a perpetual kpop survival show within the group and is going to foster animosity, jealousy and internal competition (not in a good way) for what amounts to a popularity contest without end or, apparently, reward. There's very little chance any of them will achieve that unrealistic goal.
