According to media outlet reports on November 18, singer/actor Lee Seung Gi has requested that his agency, Hook Entertainment, provide him with a transparent record of his earnings and payments.
Insiders commented, "Lee Seung Gi's side has determined that there may have been issues regarding his earnings and payments from his entertainment promotions. The request, filed through a legal representative, is demanding that a clear record of administrative fees, expenses, and balances be disclosed to Lee Seung Gi."
If Hook Entertainment fails to meet Lee Seung Gi's demands, or if Lee Seung Gi encounters problems with the record provided by Hook Entertainment, the situation could develop into a legal battle over the legitimacy of Lee Seung Gi's exclusive contract.
The news comes as a surprise to many fans and entertainment industry affiliates, due to the fact that Lee Seung Gi has been under Hook Entertainment for 18-years, from his debut until now.
Meanwhile, earlier this month on November 10, the Crime Investigation Division of the South Korean National Police conducted a search and seizure at Hook Entertainment's main office in Chungdam-dong, Seoul, on suspicions of embezzlement and fraud.
Sad to hear, but not uncommon. So many entertainers get ripped off by their agent or families as they don't have the time or knowledge to closely monitor their often complex finances. That makes them easy to victimize and it often isn't caught until the entertainer needs to make a major purchase like a commercial real estate investment and the money isn't there or so much has been stolen or lost in bad investments that some checks have bounced or credit cards or credit lines have hit their limits. Seunggi has always seemed like a pretty good guy, so hopefully he hasn't been badly defrauded and has little to show for his career so far. Fortunately he is young enough he can probably recover financially if he was stolen from, but it would suck if that were the case.
