On October 14, numerous fans getting ready for a K-Pop weekend received shocking news via email.
'KAMP LA 2022', hosted by KAMP Global, is scheduled to take place this weekend from October 15-16 at Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena, California. The event was promoted as a brand new K-Pop festival rivaling CJ ENM's 'KCON' series, with an impressive lineup featuring GOT7's BamBam, iKON, Jeon So Mi, EXO's Kai, Lapillus, P1Harmony, Super Junior, Girls' Generation's Taeyeon, aespa, Kim Chung Ha, Epik High, Momoland, MONSTA X, T1419, and Zion.T.
However, ticket holders on October 14 received the notice that there would be some major lineup changes for day 1 of the festival. The notice stated that Kai, BamBam, Taeyeon, Laipllus, Jeon So Mi, and Zion.T's performances have been cancelled, and also provided fans with instructions on how to request a refund.
According to Billboard, the above artists were not able to depart for the United States due to visa issues.
Super Junior, iKON, and P1Harmony will continue to perform as planned on day 1.
Sounds like the event didn't get the front money to all the artists agencies in time and without that, they weren't paying the fees for entertainer's visas or filing the applications. Since some of these are artists from several different major companies that are familiar with obtaining the visas it isn't like the mistake is on the companies' parts. Usually the visa should be applied for 45 days before the perfomance or there is an extra fee for a rush that makes the visa even more expensive. Plus at $4000 or more for a first class ticket no company in Korea is paying that themselves unless they got the deposit on the artists' appearance fee that covers travel, visas, the artists' entourage, etc. If this is a new festival they likely messed up, or their eyes were too big for their stomach and they booked more artists than they had the up front cash to pay for.
