Netizens are arguing over We Dem Boyz leader Vata's recent Instagram update.
The 'Street Man Fighter' contestant is currently facing plagiarism accusations over a choreography sequence he created for Zico's "New Thing". Soon after the "New Thing" dance challenge became a hot new challenge on SNS platforms, fans of boy group ATEEZ pointed out the similarities between Vata's move sequence and ATEEZ's choreography in the 2019 track "Say My Name".
On October 14th, Vata issued a statement regarding the controversy via his Instagram, days after the issue made major news headlines. In the statement, Vata claimed that "the intention behind this move sequence is entirely different from the move sequence that it is currently being compared to." The dancer further commented on the current situation showing "a lack of respect".
On October 15th, Vata made a new post unrelated to the controversy on his Instagram which promoted his latest mission on the show.
Shortly after the update, netizens were split over how he seemed to be ignoring the ongoing plagiarism allegations. Some of the comments are:

"The statement he made simply threw shade at ATEEZ. Nothing has been resolved."

1) People demanded to know his position, and when Vata made his statement— some ppl (fandom) is still upset since it’s not what they wanted to hear and still cyber bullying the guy (and ppl who voiced support for Vata). D@mn if he don’t, and d@mn if he did!
2) The 4-5 seconds in this controversy was part of the intro, and didn’t make it in the official MV last month — so it definitely wasn’t even the main/point choreo for “New Thing” 😅 Some people are really blowing this out of proportion. I read the fandom had several related-incidents this year so kinda seemed as if they’re taking it all out on Vata now.
Hoping things will settle down soon: some of the toxic/negative comments on SNS need to stop — isn’t helping either sides.
