She studied Science Education at the prestigious Ewha Women's University.
After joining the university, she decided to tell her parents that it wasn't what she wanted to do and wanted to chase her idol dreams.
Her parents disliked the idea of idols and didn't want their daughter to pursue that path.

On September 3, 2022, On tripleS daily behind-the-scenes show SIGNAL, Yooyeon said, "My mom was originally considering buying 300 of my Objekts (photocards) but i convinced her to only buy 30."
This touched many of Yooyeon's fans that her mother has changed her mind and has allowed her daughter to pursue her dreams as she thanked her mother.
Good for her for sticking to what she was passionate about rather than be forced and tied down into doing something that she wasn't going to find happiness in doing for the rest of her life. I hope she succeeds in this path and make her parents proud.
