SM Entertainment has reported its sales and operating profit for the second quarter of 2022.
First, the entertainment company reported a total sales amount of 184.4 billion KRW (~ $140.7 million USD) for the second quarter of 2022, a decrease of approximately 1% compared to the same quarter last year. The company's operating profit for the second quarter was reported at 19.4 billion KRW (~ $15 million USD), a decrease of approximately 30% compared to the same quarter in 2021.
In the second quarter of 2022, MD sales contributed 27.3 billion KRW in total sales, with the resumption of various concerts both domestically and overseas, as well as through NCT's various pop-up stores. The largest contributor to SM Entertainment's decrease in operating profit for the second quarter of 2022 is attributed to the loss suffered by its subsidiary Dream Maker, which cancelled The Boyz's U.S. tour midway due to COVID-19.
The company is projected to see a noticeable increase in sales and operating profits in the third quarter of 2022 with sales from aespa, Girls' Generation and Super Junior, as well as profits from NCT's overseas tour, NCT Dream's Seoul concert, 'SMTOWN LIVE' in Suwon and Tokyo, etc.
Meanwhile, SM Entertainment's key artist NCT is scheduled to make three comebacks in the second half of 2022, with a world tour scheduled for the fourth quarter of this year.
was a bit confused but key thing is artist sales has nothing do with the decrease since SM has and continues to kill it with the army of artists they have at their disposal to release music.
