EXO's Chen was cold-shouldered by fans at the 'SM Town Live' concert.
On August 20th, SM Entertainment hosted the first 'SMTOWN Live' concert in 5 years in Korea.
Titled 'SMTOWN Live 2022: SMCU Express @Human City Suwon', the concert took place in Suwon World Cup Stadium, and many SM artists including TVXQ, Super Junior, Girls' Generation, SHINee, EXO, Red Velvet, NCT, and aespa greeted their fans with eye-catching performances.
During the show, however, it was spotted that the majority of lightsticks were turned off when Chen appeared to perform his part. When D.O. appeared after Chen, the lights went back on as shown in the picture below.
After the pictures of the venue circulated online, netizens shared their reactions saying:
"Good thing they just turned off their lightsticks."
"Yeah, I would have done the same tbh."
"I do understand the fans. They helped Chen keep his relationship private for years but he repaid them with a shotgun wedding lol"
"I was there and yeah the reaction was pretty much non-existent when he was up."
"It's not just getting married. Max was congratulated through and through but this guy...welp you reap what you sow."
They're not "fans". He owes them nothing in regards to his private life. EXO wholeheartedly sees him as part of the group, and you know what, good for him for marrying his pregnant girlfriend instead of refusing to commit and leaving her in a difficult situation. True fans would have seen his decision to marry as a decent thing to do, which it was.
The ones who were being indecent are the people claiming to be fans of EXO. If EXO accepts Chen, why can't they swallow their pride and do the same?
In the future, his children will look back on his performances and see this black ocean with heavy hearts, because they know it was due to his decision to marry their mother in the way that he did. Imagine how they must feel. I hope they don't feel as though the world turned their backs on them, their mother, and their father. There are true fans who support Chen's decision!
