On August 22, BLACKPINK's Lisa released teasers of her cover for V Magazine.
#LisaXCeline started trending immediately when Lisa donned a sleek black dress for her first V cover as a Celine brand ambassador. Also, as an ambassador for the luxury brand Bvlgari, Lisa was seen wearing the brand's jewelry for the cover.
While V Magazine is an American magazine, it also has a strong following in Asia, leading critics and fashion influencers to celebrate Lisa as their first K-pop and Asian cover star. The magazine is pretty exclusive, as V only prints six issues a year.
In recent years Lisa has been a cover star for ELLE, Marie Claire, and five different editions of Vogue, remaining loyal and collaborating only with Celine and Bvlgari.
V Magazine has also starred only global pop stars like Madonna, Beyonce, Rihanna, and Lady Gaga, and V staff flew to South Korea to film with the Blackpink star.
Fans also appreciated the article about the talented idol, who was praised for her rapping and vocal skills, as well as her surprising duality.
V Magazine also talked about Lisa's beloved personality, showing her love for her pets and her kindness towards others.
But fans and netizens alike were caught off guard by BLACKPINK's Lisa's unexpected yet accurate comparison to Leonardo da Vinci's iconic painting, The Mona Lisa.
Despite the Mona Lisa being a legendary painting, V Magazine noted the shocking comparison of the number of visitors the painting receives each year to Lisa's Instagram followers, and apparently, in case anyone planned to protest the difference Between following someone on Instagram and traveling to see a painting, the Magazine was prepared to show just how famous Lisa really is by writing the following:
Of course, visiting a museum is one thing, the images flashing on your screen is another. But somehow, Lisa del Giocondo, the subject of Leonardo da Vinci's ubiquitous portrait, probably completed in 1517, is no longer the world's most famous "Lisa." Just check out Google, where Lisa was searched for more than painting in the last five years.
Queen of Kpop! 😊
