A Korean YouTuber shares one of the downsides of K-dramas becoming globally popular

K-Dramas are booming as they are gaining immense popularity from all over the globe. K-dramas have had a solid fandom over the years, but in recent days Korean dramas have gained more attention than ever before.

With this popularity, there have been many upsides as more people recognize the country and gather interest in Korean culture. However, one YouTube recently pointed out one downside to this popularity.

He explained that since more and more people understand Korean words, it has become impossible to curse in Korean while overseas. He pointed out one particular curse that was often used in the Netflix drama 'Squid Game' and 'All of Us Are Dead,' and said many foreigners now understand this word, so now you can't use it overseas.

The YouTuber gave an example of a situation when you might get angry while touring overseas and explained, "Let's say you were being ripped off for an item. But you can't express your anger by cursing in Korean because now they understand what that means."

Other netizens joined the online community and also shared their thoughts. One netizen explained that she worked for a foreign company and all her non-Korean co-workers understand that Korean curse word (Shibal). Netizens commented, "I work for a foreign company and this is real. When I get annoyed I would say Shibal but then now everyone knows what that means so I only mouth it under my mask," "There are other curses that they don't know we can use though," "I guess I'm off the hook because I use other curse words, lol," "I think people learn curses in any language really fast," and "I guess I have to adjust my profanity game and use another swear word now, lol."

Tbh, people should always be careful what they say in public. There are numerous instances of someone thinking the people around them don't know the language, and they get caught badmouthing them.

so the downsides here is some people can't openly cursed at foreigners anymore? Just don't curse at people lol.feeling happy just because you can curse at someone knowing that they can't say anything back is just petty. Also, you never know whether they can or can't understand your language. And even though they might not understand what you're saying, most people can understand that you're cursing at them just by looking at your aggressive face expession and body language, so...
