Min Heejin is a former SM creative director that worked there for 17 years. She worked on concepts for f(x), Red Velvet, Taeyeon, Exo, NCT, SHINee, and more. She’s now the CBO (Chief Branding Officer) of HYBE and the CEO of HYBE’s newest independent label ADOR where she is preparing to debut her own girl group and HYBE’s first girl group in a decade.

F(x) fans have pointed out similarities between Taeyeon’s recent comeback teasers and album design to f(x)’s 4walls album that was created by Min Heejin.
The two albums designs both consist of the contrasting colors blue and orange, which, when f(x) did it was a standout moment back in 2015. Both f(x) and Min Heejin received praise for the album's design.
The next similarity between the two concepts is the makeup. Back in 2015, f(x) were widely talked about for having one eye having dramatic makeup while the other was left bare. In Taeyeon’s new concept photos, you can see the same makeup style is used on her.
The art film for Taeyeon’s album was also called out for having similarities with F(x). Taeyeon’s art film and concept photos were shot in an abandoned warehouse just like f(x) concept photos.
The last similarity between the two is the exhibit. Taeyeon having an art exhibit is making many people talk about how similar that promo layout is to f(x)’s. Min Heejin was widely praised for going all out with the concept of f(x)’s four walls and making an art exhibit to promote their album, which at the time was never done before and seen as shocking.
Many Taeyeon fans argue that the similarities are merely coincidental. But many f(x) fans point out that SM’s lead creative director Jo Woocheol is currently working on most if not all of SM’s artist's latest works. They say he has worked closely with Min Heejin in the past during her time at SM, so it's not surprising if there are similar elements. Others pointed out that Jo Woocheol has plagiarized works in the past.
A little while after aespa debuted, they took on plagiarism accusations. Later, it was found out that Jo Woocheol was the creative director working on their debut and that he had a Pinterest board full of concepts and ideas that look very similar to the work of Vacades. SM later hired Vacades for aespa's official work.
I love both F(x) and Taeyeon, but the similarities seem pretty minimal to me, nothing like the plagiarism accusations or even direct inspiration.
Also, when people work together long-term ideas flow both ways... Like do we really know if the idea for using blue and orange originally came from one or the other colleague? Just because one person signs off as creative director for a project doesn't mean they came up with every detail personally. Why always assume the worst?
