Fans are seeking different ways to celebrate their idol's birthday as subway stations in Seoul hike up ad prices by 50%.
According to insiders in the entertainment and marketing industry, subway stations in Seoul hiked up ad prices by at least 50%. For instance, Samsung Station's price for putting up the ad increased from 4.5 million KRW to 7 million KRW which is more than 50%.
Other popular stations aren't much different as Gangnam, and Hongdae stations also range around 7 million KRW, and the cheapest option to put up a subway ad in Seoul would be Seocho station which ranges around 3 million KRW.
Many fandoms are seeking different ways to celebrate their idols' birthdays or looking for less populated subway stations at a cheaper price. For instance, fans of popular volleyball player Kim Yeon Koung relocated their birthday advertisement to Seolleung station as the rates were more affordable. Seolleung serves both Seoul and Bundang, which is Seoul's suburban area.
It was reported the new advertisement company raised rates as they had to outbid the incumbent to take over the advertisement contracts in Seoul subway stations.
What a dumb decision, probably motivated by greed.
The only thing this will do is make people find other stations or even other ways, they're literally shoting themselves on the feet and getting rid of an easy source of profit...wonder who was the idiot that had this "brilliant idea".
