Mamamoo's Moonbyul blew her fans' minds in her new song portraying an intimate love between two women
MOONBYUL's "Shutdown" featuring Seori is the second prerelease song on her album 6equence following G999 feat Mirani.
A live clip was recently released featuring the pair. The duo showcases a sweet and intimate aura between two lovers in a mix of soft and domestic vibes. Despite the fact that the live clip features typical scenes from a couple's everyday life, the netizens can't help but point out how explicit the song's lyrics are.
"Give it to me the night is short
Oh no worries
She said she can ruin me
She said tonight um. "
The song itself is beautifully written; it expresses making love with a woman in a very poetic and metaphorical way. For instance, Korean fans pointed out some lyrics that may only be understood from a Korean perspective.
“Passing through that mountain and crossing the bridge
I'll build a house that's like the painting
I'll draw you like Dali Picasso
Silhouette of a masterpiece
Our painting is ripening red.”
In Korean, the mountain and the bridge are akin to a woman's chest and legs as painting are also analogous to making love.
A fan pointed out another remarkable line from the song that may be referenced from Emily Dickinson'slesbian boat metaphor in Wild Nights.
"Row a boat
Inside you, I am an experienced boatman
When the water gets stronger
It's going to get rough."
The Live clip also showcases some subtle symbolism in connection to the lyrics. Watch the Live Clip here.
In a conservative country like Korea, where the same-sex relationship is still not an open topic, it is infrequent for K-Pop idols to talk about the subject of the LGBTQIA+ community, particularly as explicit as Moonbyul does in this song.
And it's not fans' imagination. In her radio show "Studio Moon Night" (every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday on Naver Now), the singer mentioned that the song, Shutdown, written by her, is indeed erotic.
Before, Moonbyul also emphasized that she does not specify gender when writing lyrics and always uses gender-neutral terms that every listener can relate to. This has been consistent in her previous written songs, not until now.
Furthermore, the song is also making rounds on Theqoo, a Korean community forum online, and multiple articles from Korean media outlets have been released, solidifying the fact that it is indeed a song about love between two women.
Nobody should care about her sexual preference, let's enjoy the art and melody of the song

Some of the comments are pretty disappointing. I guess twitter has conditioned me to being used to most kpop fans being supportive and happy to see lgbt inclusion. Not dismissive like some people here are being.. Oh well. Proud of Moonbyul and Seori
