Big Hit Music has released a statement regarding Jimin's current health status, including his recent diagnosis of COVID-19.
According to the agency, the BTS member felt sudden abdominal pain along with a mild sore throat on January 30 KST, so he visited the emergency room of a nearby hospital where he received a PCR test and other examinations. It was then discovered that not only had he tested positive for COVID-19 but also acute appendicitis. He received appendicitis surgery in the early morning of January 31.
"According to the medical staff, the operation went well, and Jimin is currently resting and recovering," the statement continued. "He is expected to be hospitalized for the time being due to the combination of COVID-19 and appendicitis surgery. He is currently experiencing a mild sore throat, but it is improving."
Big Hit Music also shared that Jimin was not in contact with any of the other BTS members during the period he would have been contagious.
"We will do our best to support Jimin so that he can recover his health as soon as possible, as we consider our artists' health and safety as the top priority," the agency concluded. "In addition, we will faithfully cooperate with the requests and guidelines of the quarantine authorities."

The appendicitis is definitely a lot worse than the Covid infection (considering he only has a mild sore throat) so it was good that they inspected him properly and didn't just blame it on Covid (since abdominal pain can be a symptom), otherwise it could have ended very badly. To his fans it may be a shock that he got surgery so suddenly but in the end it probably saved his life. If he didn't get surgery quickly his appendix could have bursted, leading to infection and possibly death if not treated right away.
