ASTRO member Moonbin's stage performance at the '2021 TMA' is embroiled in a plagiarism controversy.
Shortly after the awards ceremony on October 2nd, netizens on online communities and social media have been saying ASTRO member Moonbin's marionette performance resembles a performance by Japanese group Arashi. Arashi member Satoshi Ohno showcases a marionette performance during the group's live tour held in 2017 to 2018, titled 'untitled' as shown in the video clip below.
Over 1000 netizens shared their thoughts in the comments, saying:
"I really didn't want to side with Japan, but this is almost identical."
"This is almost identical, straight-up plagiarism. How can anyone defend this?"
"Well the choreography is different but the set designs and everything else seems identical."
"This can't be a cliche because it was an original work by Arashi back then. What a shame."
"Aside from the plagiarism, Moonbin seems to be a better dancer at least."
"That concert means a lot to fans of Arashi. Your oppa isn't the only idol on earth lol Stop defending him."
"At first I knew the marionette concept was pretty much cliche, but his stage is too similar to the Japanese one. This is just stealing."
"The quality difference... I can't even"
What do you think?
As an Arashian, I immediately noticed it too! This concert means a lot to all of us.
Moonbin's performance was good, but I wish it wasn't like this. I don't blame him personally, but I think his agency really needs to check better. I hope they will be careful next time and double check, a lot of people are watching and it could harm the reputation of Moonbin.
