Private information of TOP Media artists' fans have been leaked.
On September 5, TOP Media issued an official statement confirming that a list containing personal information of applicants for their artist's recent fan signing event has been leaked. The full statement reads:
“Hello, this is TOP MEDIA. We inform you that a list containing the personal information of the applicants of our artist's fan signing event has been recently leaked and detected.
We are currently trying to track the circumstances in which the information has been leaked. We are investigating all the record companies that held the signing events at that time, and we will hold them responsible as soon as the route is identified.
The collection and leakage of personal information without the consent of the person directly involved is a violation of the Privacy Act. We are also reporting the initial distributor as well as the current owner for spreading and possessing personal information in violation of the Personal Information Act.
We will be careful when proceeding with the events to prevent this kind of situation in the future. We apologize for causing fans' concern. Also, please send any additional information related to personal information leakage via e-mail (up@itopgroup.com).
Thank you."
On social media, domestic fans have lamented about this issue as potential victims of the leaked information.
Furthermore, global fans of the alleged label artists in question have expressed discontent towards the company for their purported neglect of special events and promotions in the past:
It sucks when this happens to you, you have to change so many passwords and check no money is gone from you accounts. Then check again a few weeks later. Very stressful.
