It's been a year since rapper SUGA released his second mixtape, 'D-2' under the name of Agust D. With a total of 10 songs, this time, Agust D talks about remembering his roots, where he comes from, the intention of running away from the monster he keeps holding inside, lost friendships and also, thinking about what's the real meaning of being "special."
In this mixtape, he emphasizes that it's just a file of when he is 28 years old. He's more refined and mature compared to when he was 24. His first mixtape was released under the name of "Agust D," and he talks about depression, anxiety, and social phobia, including his damaged relationship with his parents, friends, and difficulties he has been through while being young, in search of his dreams.
The second mixtape has many artists he collaborated with, such as MAX, RM, Kim Jong Wan, and NiiHWA, while in his song, "People," producer ADORA accompanied him with her vocal skills in the chorus and second voices.
While talking about Daechwita, his only single that has an MV, we can't skip the fact about the cultural impact it has and how the history of Korea has been a point of interest from all those curious people around the world. Representing a mad king, a rebel, the famous Ilwol Obongdo, which is the wall covered with hills, water, and trees, with the sun in the middle and a paint that can only be put behind the throne. Min Yoongi knew exactly how to make his country proud of its roots and beliefs in all of these aspects.
Combining modern art with the era where Korea was one country and was dominated by Kings, it's something that only Agust D could have done, in both visual and lyrics. To produce his own mixtape, to write his own lyrics, from disappointing events, frustration itself, mental health, and his own way to see himself as a killer King and as someone who could be the only one to stop him, definitely, D-2 is made for those who know too well of themselves, that they are too afraid to face their own double masks.
Congrats on this very first year, D-2!
Thank you SUGA for giving us D-2. It is my comfort album.
